Ubuntu, yes Ubuntu... you love to talk about Ubuntu every May 25th.

In fact, you love to talk about Ubuntu all the time.

“umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu.”

A person is a person through other people.

Do you know what it means?

I take it the silence means yes.

So why do you hate so much?

Why are you full of hate and judgment?

Do you not know that hatred is a double edged sword?

How do you even create a society of people with Ubuntu?

How Africa, please tell me?

You want to talk about how homosexuality is ‘un-African’... where do you get that from?

When you say homosexuality is ‘un-African’, do you mean before or after Christianity?

Have you not read about Queen Nzinga of Ndongo?

Or about King Mangwa II of Buganda? 

Yes, the famous gay King who ruled Uganda in the 19th century.

Are you not informed of his manslaughter on Christians? 45 people executed...my god!

Was it not the exact time when King Edward VIII was killing gay men in England?

Or do you not know your history that much? Because, well, you are intentionally dense.

It's typical African to be ignorant, huh?

Well, so let me teach you your history.

Allow me to educate  you about the Igbo and Yoruba tribes of present-day Nigeria.

The tribes that did not assign gender to babies at birth until a later time in life.

Tell me again, is it not the same Nigeria that we have amongst the most homophobic countries in Africa today?

You want to reference culture too much...

What happened to your culture Igbo and Yoruba people?

What is ‘un-African’ is christianity the basis of your hypothesis.

Please can anyone ask the Dagaaba people of present-day Ghana, what happened to their culture of not co-relating anatomy and gender?

Tell me where the culture of assigning gender based on energy went to? Somebody, please give me some answers.

Where did that noble culture go?

Was it colonization that brought hate amongst Africans? Are you still that colonized Africa?

Tell me 1 African community that criminalized homosexuality before Christianity?

If you say being gay is abhorrent to our culture, do you even know your history?

So let me also enlighten you about Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum?

Gay ancient Egyptian royals who ruled in the 25th Century BC.

Buried together on top of each other as gay lovers, in a joint tomb, they say.

So, tell me again how homosexuality is strange to African culture?

How it is a western import and a taboo to African culture?

Africans are now amongst the most adamant to accept queerness, how?

At what point  did we become hateful people?

What exactly is ‘un-African’ about queerness?

And please also tell me, when you perpetrate ‘corrective rape’, what exactly will you be trying to correct?

If you just want to hate because you are horrible people, please do that!

But roping ‘culture’ in it would be disingenuous of you.

Don’t reference culture, because culture was never your basis.

There is nothing fundamentally African about being homophobic, biphobic, transphobic, or lesbophobic!

Read that again.

We have bigger issues to fight as Africans, and who anyone takes to their bed is definitely not one of them.

How about we fight food insecurity, externalization, corruption ...

Real pressing African issues that affect our daily lives!

Gay people have always lived amongst African communities.
